PATAGONIA 2019 EVENT RECAP

Back in February 2019, Patagonia invited me to shoot their first Grow the Outdoors event in New York City, which aimed to make the outdoors a safer and inclusive environment for diversity. Since that event, Patagonia has continued to invite me to shoot various events, some within the Grow the Outdoors series and some outside of it. Events include: Grow the Outdoors, Done in R1, Simon Charrière: Let It Flow, Adaptive Climbing Group, Regenerative Agriculture, Training for the Uphill Athlete, Brothers of Climbing: Repair Clinic, Upper West Side 20th Anniversary, Gallery Wall, and Global Climate Strike.

In addition to capturing their events, we were also invited to give a Keynote presentation on our van conversion and road trip to Color the Crag.

PATAGONIA CLIMATE JUSTICE MURALS

During the winter of 2019, Patagonia NYC celebrated environmental organizations dedicated to Climate Justice. Patagonia hired Peter Laxalt to paint murals throughout all four of their NYC store front windows - each mural linking to a different environmental partner committed to Climate Justice. Additionally, Patagonia organized their stores to allow people to voice their concerns by writing postcards to City Council Member Carlos Menchaca, Mayor DeBlasio, Governor Cuomo and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, urging their to support the Green New Deal.

Organizations include: RISE, WEACT, American Indian Law Alliance, and UPROSE.

ANDY'S DELI BTS

One of the designs for Andy’s Deli required a custom sleeve tag to be sewn onto the shirts. So I enlisted the help of the best seamstresses I know - my mom and her two sisters!

COLOR THE CRAG 2019

In 2018, my partner and I converted our Honda Odyssey, and made it our home while we made our way to “Color the Crag”, an annual climbing festival in Horse Pens 40, Alabama. (See Color the Crag 2018) In 2019, we made the same trip, but brought a few more friends along and made a few extra stops.

The purpose of Color the Crag is “… to celebrate diversity in the sport of rock climbing. Our mission is to increase access and exposure to historically marginalized communities by building relationships, encouraging leadership, and providing positive representation of climbing and physical activity among populations of color.”

On September 20, 2019, millions of us walked out of our workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels. Our house is on fire — let’s act like it.

We demand climate justice for everyone.

COLOR THE CRAG 2018

In the Fall of 2018 -shortly after learning how to drive and getting our first car- my partner and I converted the minivan that we got, and took a 10 day road trip from New York City to Horse Pens 40 in Steele, Alabama for the event, Color the Crag.

MINIVAN CONVERSION

In the summer of 2018, I converted my newly-purchased Honda Odyssey 2006 into a mobile home. Once completed, my partner and I went on a 10 day adventure, where the final destination was Color the Crag.
